When I was going through my usual iTunes freebee run, I came across this new band, Parachute, when their song, “Under Control” were featured as the single of the week. When I heard the song I just saw its summer anthem potential. I could just see myself laying in a hammock or walking on a beach to the lovey harmonies of this song. First off this band hails from Charlottesville, Virginia which is probably how they got their polished sound and look, much like I Nine, a band that was also from the South (Orangeville, South Carolina- to be exact). Their polished look shows in their their music video to their first single, “She Is Love” the band is shown walking through a field all wearing either suit jackets or pea coats, they don’t even have to try really hard either they are just naturally classy. Their sound is blue eyed soul mixed with pop-rock. In a nutshell they are like the perfect combination of The Fray and Maroon 5. They toured with bands like The Script, Secondhand Serenade, and 3 Doors Down. “She Is Love” was also featured in a Nivea skin commercial. So if you are a fan of Maroon 5 , The Fray, or The Script or you into music you can relax to and jam at the same time most likely you will like Parachute.
Parachute’s new album Losing Sleepis a mature minded upbeat, but mellow album which makes it a must have for summ
er. When I saw the band, their name, and their album cover, I had a feeling that these were the perfect band (well-for me!). When I heard the song it proved my assumption. What amazes me is their very wide repertoire, they can do upbeat, downbeat, nobeat- if you asked them to they probably could. But while they can do different thing musically they are always themselves- unlike some bands where you can tell that they are reaching. Probably because they’ve taken out time to grow and develop before they released Losing Sleep, unlike most new bands who jump the gun to release an album, while those bands sound good but their work seems a bit half-baked. But with Losing Sleep you can see and hear every detail was scrutinized to perfection by the band. Songs like the acrostic guitar driven, “She Is Love”, is slow and sweet enough for one to savor every chord, note, and lyric. “The Mess I Made” which is slow song led by soft piano with a memorable hook. “Under Control” is a mid tempo song with piano that sounds similar to Maroon 5, in some parts it sounds soulful that just takes you back to summer. “She(For Liz)” has the same idea of “Under Control” , but with stronger vocals and instrumentals. Overall Losing Sleep is an emotional, yet relaxing and that is what makes it a summer must have. I you interested in buying it get it on iTunes for $6.99 which includes digital booklet, an bonus track, and the full band version of “She Is Love”.
